Martenitsa Choir

Choir led by artistic and musical directors Llew and Mara Kiek, and founded by the latter in 1989, starting with about 40 Sydney singers around the core group, Mesana Salata (an all-female multicultural choral group pioneering the new wave of Australian a cappella which was formed in May 1983), of which Mara was a founding member. Based in Ultimo (New South Wales, Australia), Martenitsa Choir is modelled on the magnificent Bulgarian state choirs, and has become one of the most highly regarded and innovative choirs in Australia. The choir has also recorded music with Mara! the musical ensemble also led by Llew and Mara Kiek.
