Anagram Records was started by Cherry Red Records in 1982.
At that time the Cherry Red label had a very distinct image and a new label was needed to release records by harder edged Punk and Goth acts. The name Anagram was chosen because it had no distinct identity, the image would be created by the music released.
The first release, One Way System's 'Give Us A Future/Just Another Hero' came out in September 1982 and was a Top 30 Independent chart hit.
