Symphonie Nr. 6 in a-Moll (Symphony no. 6 in A minor)
~ Symphony
Annotation
There is some controversy over the order of the two middle movements. Mahler initially composed the work with the four movements in the order Allegro-Scherzo-Andante-Finale, but changed his mind prior to publication and published it using the order Allegro-Andante-Scherzo-Finale. Following his death, however, his widow Alma instructed that the original movement order was the correct one. Although most recorded performances use the movement order 'Andante-Scherzo', many elect to use the original 'Scherzo-Andante' order.
As of August, 2021 however, the majority of recordings in this database (2/3 roughly) use the 'Scherzo-Andante' order.
